Parent & Child Learn To Swim (6 months to 3 years) The purpose of this course is to familiarize young children to the water and prepare them to learn to swim in the American Red Cross Preschool Aquatics or Learn-to-Swim courses.
Preschool Learn to Swim (PLS) (3-5yrs) This course is to orient preschool-age children, 3-5 years of age, to the aquatic environment and to help them acquire rudimentary levels of basic aquatic skills. 10 pairs of Parent and Child per instructor.
Youth Learn To Swim (YLS) (6-17 yrs) The City of Oakland has adopted the American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim program. It offers five comprehensive course levels on how to swim skillfully and safely. The prerequisite for each level is successful demonstration of the skills taught in the preceding level. Beginners start at Level 1, which has no prerequisites. Participants can be tested and divided into appropriate levels prior to the first day of class. Classes are limited to 6 students per instructor, for levels 1-3 and 10 students per instructor for levels 4-5.
Pre-Swim Team (YLS 4+) This course will provide children with the technical and endurance training they need for competitive swimming. Topics covered include stroke development and racing techniques.
Junior Lifeguard Camp (10-15 yrs)
Our Junior Lifeguard program combines water safety education with physical fitness and rescue skill building activities. First aid, CPR, and rescue skills are developed as participants learn about a variety of water activities. Successful Junior Lifeguard participants will be strongly considered for aquatic positions at City of Oakland when they reach age 16 and complete a lifeguard training course, and submit an application to the City of Oakland.
Adult Learn To Swim (Adult LTS) Participants will be tested and divided into appropriate levels on the first day of class. Classes are limited to 6 students per instructor.
Special Needs Learn To Swim Participants will have the opportunity to interact in a small group setting with an instructor. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information and registration.
Private Lessons: Participants will have an individualized approach to their learning in the water. Instructors will have an opportunity to assess each swimmer’s level and identify goals and achievements for each student. Lessons are 30 minutes in length and student to teacher ratio is 1:1.
